Food Deserts

This documentary walks you into the world of millions of Americans who are starving for good nutrition. These rural and urban communities are often hidden in plain sight. If you own a car or make enough money, you zip right by them without noticing. But for those caught in the quicksand, the long-term absence of healthy food is a path to poor health and an early grave.

The hallmark of a food desert is one or more of the following:

  • little access to fresh food within a mile or so
  • plenty of fast food restaurants
  • difficulty getting to a store, due to lack of a car, illness or disability
  • lack of awareness of good nutrition
